Len Lankford is the President and CEO of Greenleaf Forestry and Wood Products, Inc., a Colorado company that integrates forest management and operations, materials processing, and manufacture of handcrafted value-added products. He is also President and Forester of Lankford Foresters, Inc., a forest and land management firm.
A full-time private consulting forester since 1975, Lankford specializes in services for private landowners. He has implemented continuing and innovative management and forestry operations on both large and small tracts, for a variety of environmental forestry objectives, on thousands of acres of forestland on the Front Range and West Slope of Colorado.
In 1994 he incorporated Greenleaf Forestry and Wood Products to perform specialized forestry jobs for his clients and to create economic uses for materials salvaged from forestry projects. He has operated a sawmill, developed service and product lines, and designed a business model for Greenleaf. Its mission is to achieve sustainable forest fuels treatment, forest restoration and health, and economic small
wood utilization through replicable community-based forest restoration and product businesses for solid wood, fuel, and live trees.
Other projects have included a forest products marketing program reaching over 2000 potential buyers annually, development of computerized systems for tracking management accomplishments, forest inventory (timber cruise), and wildlife habitat analysis, appraisals of timber and wood product casualty losses and management of tree planting, seeding, and transplanting.
He has adapted forestry for land value improvement in subdivisions, including density, insect, and disease control, landscaped views, aesthetics, and natural environment enhancements; designed and supervised construction of road and trail systems for access and recreational use; managed cost projects for landowners, including land cleanup, habitat improvements, fuel reduction, and fencing.
Additionally he has gained public recognition of clients' practice of good forestry through certification in the American Tree Farm System and has published articles on forestry and forest product issues in Colorado. His educational background includes a Master of Forestry from Yale University (1974) and a Bachelor of Forestry from Stephen F. Austin State University (1969).
